A TOWN mayor’s relative allegedly shot a man dead in Barangay Poblacion, Argao last Thursday night.
Following the incident the next day was the stabbing of a grade six pupil of a public school in Argao, Cebu by a 22-year-old high school student.
In the first case, Edmer Galeos, 39, nephew of Argao Mayor Edcel Galeos, allegedly shot fisherman Eduardo Sabio, 59, in the right side of his head, PO2 Bernie Lao said in a phone interview.
Before the shooting at 8:50 p.m., Sabio was drinking beer with his relative, Felipe, outside the store owned by Rogelio Albiso.
Moments later, Edmer arrived with Esmael Calledo and another friend. They ordered two bottles of beer.
After a few drinks, Edmer left. Sabio stood up and tailed him. Felipe then heard a gun being cocked, which was followed by a burst of gunfire. When he checked where the sound came from, he saw Sabio sprawled bloodied on the ground.
Police were not able to recover the firearm, but they found an empty shell of a .45 pistol.
Lao said Sabio was known to ask for money from his neighbors in Sitio Looc when drunk.
Sabio was rushed to a public hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival. Edmer surrendered at 10 a.m. yesterday.

In the Argao incident yesterday, Kirk Geverola suffered a stab wound in the back after he was allegedly attacked by Oliver Famero, 22, a third year high school student.
Before the incident took place in Usmad Elementary School at 9:20 a.m., teacher Merlina Alvaracin told the police she was checking the papers of her students, who recently took the Regional Achievement Test.
When she later saw Famero standing outside the classroom, she approached him. Famero told her he wanted to ask for an apology from Geverola, Lao said.
But when Famero saw Geverola standing inside the room, he ran and stabbed the latter.
Lao said Famero was not able to inflict fatal wounds on Geverola, after he was grabbed by Alvaracin.
Famero was chased by Geverola’s classmate, but he was not caught because he climbed over the school’s fence.
Forty-minutes later, Famero surrendered to Leonardo Amarillo, a former Usmad barangay councilor.
Geverola was rushed to a public hospital in Argao, but was later transferred to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
Famero had a fight with Geverola during their drinking session last night after the
latter refused to lend him his flashlight, Lao said.
